An Immigration DNA test in Nigeria is a genetic test used to confirm a stated biological relationship between two or more individuals, for travel purposes.
It is especially useful when other forms of credible evidence are not available for the processing of an immigrant’s visa application. Immigration DNA test commonly tests paternity, maternity, full-siblingship, or half-siblingship.
How Is Immigration DNA Sample Collected?
There are several ways to collect samples for DNA tests, but for immigration DNA, the preferred sample collection method is a cheek swab.
The cheek or buccal samples are collected from inside the mouth with long cotton swabs. This DNA sample collection method is recommended because it is easier to collect, non-invasive, painless, and eliminates the logistical problems of transferring samples.

How do Immigration DNA Tests work?
- Locate an accredited facility
To initiate the process, you (petitioner) need to select an American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) accredited DNA centre (such as any of the Lynx DNA Laboratory testing centers across Nigeria), where your DNA samples will be collected.
- Petitioner DNA sample collection
Book an appointment at our DNA test centre nearest to you and your cheek swab sample will be collected by one of our experts and dispatched in line with immigration DNA test procedures. Note that as an applicant for this kind of visa, you are not allowed to send the DNA sample personally.
- Embassy contacts the applicant
Once the Embassy abroad receives the DNA kit from the accredited laboratory within the country, they contact the visa applicant and schedule them for an interview.
- Payment Of The DNA Sampling Fees
Before you get your appointment at the embassy, you must have made payment to us in order to conduct the DNA test. The receipt from the payment has to be carried to your appointment at the Embassy.
- Receiving the Test Results and Next Steps
After the DNA test has been completed, the results are sent directly to the Embassy or Consulate. After the Consular receives the DNA test results, the immigration visa applicant will be contacted to continue the visa application process.
How Long Does Immigration DNA Test Take?
After samples are collected, they are sent directly to an accredited laboratory. It then takes 14 working days to complete the testing. Reviewing the results and sending the report to the immigration office takes 3 to 7 working days.
